Support of Friends Groups

The Affiliates Support Friends Groups

The Affiliates were also instrumental in supporting the creation of friends and support groups on campus that still exist to this day.

  • In the 1970's Friends of the Library
  • Friends of the Arboretum
  • Friends of the Farm and Garden

All were all provided initial start-up funds from The Affiliates.

During the 1980's and 1990's The Affiliates hosted a public affairs lecture series that featured prominent UC Santa Cruz faculty once a month at the Louden Nelson Center on the third Wednesday of every month.

The members also created a new committee initiated by board member Judge Donald May that concentrated on generating answers to specific complaints from the community about the university.

In 1982 at their annual "Gavel Passing Dinner" The Affiliates hosted noted Santa Cruz writer James Houston.

To benefit the scholarship fund, musicians from the USSR performed a concert featuring Russian composers.  The scholarship fund was also a beneficiary of money raised from the Pacific Film Festival that took place at the Del Mar Theatre.
