East Field House and Colleges
The first Affiliates general session on campus was the occasion for inaugurating the East Field House. The East Field House was the first complete building at UC Santa Cruz that had the capacity to accommodate the 400-member general session.
The speaker for this first meeting on campus was James D. "Scotty" Reston, a senior editor and columnist of the New York Times.
Earlier speakers for general meetings included UC's then president Clark Kerr, President of the Board of Regents Gerald Hagar, and photographer Ansel Adams.

The Affiliates played host to the public at large.
Receptions were held with the administration to introduce the charter provosts and their spouses to their new neighbors, both off and on campus. These events always coincided with the opening of the fall quarter and were effective in bringing the community to the campus.
